My third Develop: Brighton after nearly three years in Game Dev, huge thanks to Jagex for funding them all!
On Wednesday I volunteered on the Runescape: Dragonwilds stand as an Exhibitor this year following on from an Audio Pass year one and an Expo pass year two. It was great chatting with so many people interested in working at Jagex across our various projects, the main bulk of people had been hit by redundancies recently and the others were recent graduates.
After volunteering Ashton and I had a swim in the ocean, the second time I've ever done this, it was a great break from the crowds even with the 10 litres of sea water swallowed. We followed this up with a meal out with the team before attending the annual Wednesday Game Audio drinks. These were held at a new venue, leaving the Lion and Lobster in the past. The Brighton Music Hall was a great choice even with the overwhelmed staff and bouncers, hopefully next year they will expect similar numbers. I spoke to several people who I had only interacted online with and some familiar faces from various meet ups I have attended since joining the industry.
On the following day I took some time to look around the Expo, read some on the beech and had lunch with coffee. This was a well needed slow day and I departed around 5pm back to Leeds inspired and motivated.
See you next year, Brighton!
